California has ambitious goals: reaching 100% clean electricity by 2045 will require adding roughly 7,000 MW of renewable capacity every year. Many renewable projects are ready to be built—but without enough transmission lines to move that energy where it’s needed, projects will keep piling up in the backlog.

That's why the clean energy transition doesn't just depend on more solar panels and batteries. It depends on a smarter, faster, better-connected grid.

Fortunately, California's current Transmission Plan includes a $6.1 billion investment in grid modernization—an essential foundation for scaling clean energy. The plan focuses not just on adding new lines, but also on relieving transmission congestion, improving reliability, and preparing for new renewable generation across multiple zones.

Stronger, better-planned transmission infrastructure is critical for connecting the next wave of solar and storage projects that will power California’s energy future. Investing in transmission isn't the side story; it’s the foundation.
